Smide benämns bearbetning av en upphettad metall där plana eller formade verktyg pressas eller slås mot arbetsstycket för att plastisk forma detta.

Closed die forging

Process Forging process in which a workpiece by means of one or more strokes is deformed between two closed mold halves.

Open die forging

Process Forging process where the workpiece is exposed to several types of a dies that does not surround the entire workpiece.

Orbital forging

Process Forging process where the workpiece is placed in a permanent form and processed using the pressure of a slanted and oscillating die.

Radial forging

Process Forging process where the workpiece is subjected to repeated press strokes from a number of dies mounted around the axis of the workpiece.

Roll forging

Process Forging process where the workpiece is fed through two specially shaped rolls to create a long product with varying cross section.

Rotary flow forging

Process Forging process where the workpiece is formed by roll pressing it to flow onto the rotating mandrels.

Rotary forging

Process Forging process where the workpiece is gradually pushed out by a rotating die against a rotating anvil.
