By drilling and threading a hole with a larger diameter than desired, a thread insert can be fitted to achieve the desired dimension.
This is used either to repair a broken thread or to create a thread that is stronger than is possible in the workpiece.
The three most common threaded inserts are:
1. Helicoil
2. Keenserts
3: Time-serts
