The workpiece acts as cathode and the surface coating agent, in this case, an alloy of lead and tin, acts as the anode. Both are immersed in a solution which vary in composition depending on the material, the desired process speed, and the final result. An anode-cathode reaction is created by the voltage applied, causing the metal ions to leave the anode and migrate through the liquid to the part where it’s applied as a thin layer on its surface.
